William L. Wells, 79, went to be with his wife in heaven at 8:26 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at his home in Alton. Born December 25, 1931 in Paoli, Indiana, he was the son of Elmer and Maggie (West) Wells. Mr. Wells served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He retired as an extruder operator from Energy Coding in Alton and was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post 794. On October 4, 1952 in Edwardsville, he married the former Hazel Eileen Dickerson. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2007. Surviving is a daughter, Janet E. Ford of Alton, two sons, William E. Wells and wife Nancy of Roxana, and Charles K. Wells of Godfrey, seven grandchildren and their spouses, Trena Wells and Rick Link of Moro, Billy and Robin Wells of Moro, Kim and Rick Alexander of Roxana, Matthew and Amy Cooper of Moro, Jammie Harrison of Godfrey, Charles Albert and Tamara Wells of Alton, and Kelly Marie Wells and Ken Everage of Godfrey, 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandson, Michael Kelly, a great grandchild, Mika Mary Link, a son-in-law, Steven Ford, a brother, Leroy Wells, and one sister, Elva Nolan. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the 5A's Animal Shelter.
