Virginia (Jean) Ann Ervin, 85, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Saint Louis University hospital. She was born September 14, 1931 in Jersey County, IL. The daughter of the late John Sigmund and Marie (Myers) Wittman. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1949. On July 9, 1949 in Collinsville, IL she married M.M. (Doc) Ervin and he preceded her in death on August 21, 2007. Surviving are eight children; Mary (Ginger) Leeling of Visalia, CA, M. Edward (Barbara) Ervin of Peoria, Arizona, Julie Elmendorf of Godfrey, IL, Daniel (Ann) Ervin of St. Charles, MO, Thomas (Diana) Ervin of Tok, Alaska, Susan (Roger) Starrett, of Evanston, WY, Kathryn (Keith) Leonard of Greenville, S.C. and Joseph (Peggy) Ervin of Wheatland, WY, 21 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one sister; Wilma Wittman of Eureka, MO and three brothers; John W. Wittman (Joan) of Godfrey, Robert L. Wittman (Alice) of Godfrey and Richard Wittman (Carol) of Ocala, FL. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalee Opal Schwegel. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Janoski officiating.
