Virgie A. Roemer, 99, died at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Brooking Park in Chesterfield, MO. She was born March 25, 1912 in Fayette County, Illinois the daughter of the late Frederick and Viola (Fair) Springman. On December 4, 1936 in Alton she married Conrad A. Roemer and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1998. In her early years of marriage she worked at Springman Lumber Co. where she served on the board. She was the last charter member of 1st Christian Church Alton. Surviving are two sons in law; Richard Walker of Maryland Heights, MO and Charles Mathers of Jefferson City, MO, 6 grandchildren; Paul, Mark, and Timothy Mathers, Charity Mathers Koehler, Maureen Walker Wilson and Sarah Walker, 4 great grandchildren, and one brother; George L. Springman of Chesterfield, MO. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two daughters; Dorothy Louise Mathers and Margaret Jane Walker, and one sister; Lelia Teaney. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Alton with Reverend Jim Johnston to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
