Velma Viola Adams, 94, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born January 21, 1922 in Tamms, IL, she was the daughter of George and Rhoda (Poe) Adams. Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. She was a faith filled woman who prayed her Rosary daily and enjoyed sharing stories of her children and grandchildren with others. On June 28, 1957 she married Cecil Adams in Hernando, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2010. Surviving is a daughter Robin Telle (Jim) of Glendale, AZ, two sons, Greg Adams (Georgia) of Godfrey, and Dr. Michael C. Adams (Barb) of St. Louis, MO, six grandchildren, Elizabeth Telle, Karra Adams, Nyssa Abner, Kynlee Adams, Ava Adams, and Sean Adams, and a sister, Evelyn Marie Strader of Maryville, IL. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 9:00-9:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father John Paul Klein, OMV will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
