Obituary

Sarah Ann Dobson was born on September 27, 1939, in Rayville, Louisiana, to M. R. and Lorene Townsend. She grew up in a home as the oldest of five siblings: a sister, Becky Jo, who preceded her in death at the age of four, brothers, Eddie, and Hoyt, who preceded her in death, and a surviving brother, Donnie Townsend of Dallas, Texas.

Sarah's family moved to Lumberton, MS. It was there she met a football player, Wallace Dobson, who became her high school sweetheart. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, in January of 2020. Surviving are three children: Andre' Dobson (LuAnne) of Godfrey, IL; Rebecca, of Petal, MS; and Kaye (Andrew), of Huntsville, Alabama. Sarah had six grandchildren: Wes Dobson (Misty), Wade Dobson (Emily), Cari Gaunt (Brad), Jessica Reynolds, Chris Reynolds, and Nick Reynolds (Shelley). Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Maci Dobson, Mia Dobson, Caison Dobson, Kadence Dobson, Kopelan Dobson, Addie Gaunt, and Levi Gaunt.

Sarah spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking wonderful care of her children throughout their growing up years. She also was a kindergarten assistant teacher for several years at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen, MS. In her earlier years of church ministry, she would often be found taking care of preschoolers. She was a devoted wife, married to Wallace for almost 64 years. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

When Sarah and Wallace moved to Illinois in 2016, they became members of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.

Visitation is set for Monday, March 11, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Gent Funeral Home. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Wade Dobson will officiate. Burial will take place in Lumberton, MS.
