Ruth L. Gross, 84, died at 3:56 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Integrity Healthcare in Godfrey. Born May 17, 1931 in Alton, she was the daughter of Vernon and Lorene (Chilton) Dykeman. She was a long time member of First Christian Church in Alton. She retired in 1995 from St. Anthony's Hospital as an LPN. On April 27, 1951 she married Charles Richard Gross Jr. in Alton. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Rene Gross of Brighton and Charlene Grills (Arlie) of Alton, two sons, Charles Richard Gross III (Kathy) of East Alton, and John Lee Gross of Houston, TX. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Keri Schrumpf (Patrick), Charles Richard Gross IV, Bradley W. Gross, Daniel P. McDonald, Sarah Saavedra (Larry), and Joshua L. Gross (Kathy), nine great grandchildren, one brother, Fred Dykeman (Marilyn) of Godfrey, and two sisters, Shirley Crabtree of Alton, and Mary Rowden (Gary) of Pontoon Beach. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Lillian K. Gross. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at First Christian Church in Alton. Jim Johnston will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
