Robert P. Wanzek, 83, died at 10:52 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at his home in Godfrey. Born June 26, 1931 in Bismarck, ND, he was the youngest of nine children born to August and Anna (Schultz) Wanzek. He was a an ordained priest and worked as a high school principal in James Town North Dakota and a marriage counselor in Grand Forks North Dakota. He received his PhD in 1970 and worked at Northern Illinois University as the director of Orientation and Student Assistance. Retired from the Department of Education in 1998. On August 10, 1969 he married the former Judith Catherine Hendricks in Minneapolis, MN. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Ann Wanzek of Tallahassee, FL, and Jennifer Nelson White (Mark) of Michael, IL, three grandchildren, Brendan White, Collin White and Calista White. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Gert, Joseph, Father John, Helen, Margaret, Josephine, Sister Roseanne and Phil. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
