Robert Edwin Ryan, 45, died at 9:56 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born October 28, 1965 in Carlinville, he was the son of James B. and Guida Marie (Gilbert) Ryan. He worked for many years as a cook for the Alton Eagles and later as a cook for Joe K's in Alton. Surviving are two sons, Robert Ryan of Alton and Elijah of Steelville, MO, one daughter, Lauren of Rosewood Heights, five brothers, Patrick Ryan of Alton, John Ryan and wife Lek of Austin, TX, William Ryan and wife Margaret of Bethalto, Thomas Ryan and wife Lisa of Godfrey, and Paul Ryan and wife Tracy of Alton, nine sisters, Norma Klein and husband Ronald of Alton, twins, Mary Weiss and husband Mark of Bethalto and Marie Schulz and husband John of Rumely, MI, Joan Darr and husband Raymond of Alton, Sue Cowan and husband Stephen of Alton, Janet Brooks and husband Kevin of Eldred, IL, Judith Ryan of Alton, Marjorie Poynor of Alton, and Patricia Tolle and husband Jerry of Godfrey. Robert is also survived by many friends including Lori and Rhonda Strowmatt as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Father Peter Donohoe will officiate.
