Reid Douglas Childers Jr., 67, died at 10:14 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at his home in Alton. Born June 30, 1957 in Alton, he was the son of Ann (Tate) Childers of Glen Carbon and the late Reid Douglas Childers Sr. Doug retired as a lieutenant after serving 27 years with the Alton Police Department. On May 22, 1981 he married the love of his life, Karen L. (Kadell) Childers in Alton. She survives. Along with his mother and his wife he is survived by a son, Craig Childers of Alton, a daughter-in-law, Sara Childers of O'Fallon, MO, seven loving grandchildren, a sister, Debra Ann Steinhauer and her husband Karl of Glen Carbon and a brother, David Lee Childers and his wife Tammy of Wood River. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Reid Childers and a brother, Dennis Bryan Childers. Services are pending. Burial will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the 5A's Animal Shelter or to the family. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
