Michael William Newby, 56, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly at 6:14 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born September 7, 1955 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Bill Newby of Alton and the late Betty (Westrich) Newby. He was a union carpenter out of Local 377 for over 30 years. Michael loved fishing, camping, boating, thrift shopping, spending time with family, and his Great Danes. Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Noreen (Newcome) Newby, a daughter, Heather Newby and Andrew Flye of Godfrey, two sons, Jacob Newby of Orlando, FL, and Zach Newby of Godfrey, two grandchildren, Gage Flye and Ava Flye both of Godfrey, two brothers, Billy and Ana Newby of San Mateo, CA, and Randy Newby of Chicago, and five sisters, Linda and Mike Morrissey of Godfrey, Patti and Frank Hughes of Godfrey, Kathy and Terry Bristow of Alton, Nancy and John Magurany of Godfrey, and Theresa and Todd Harpole of Alton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother Betty. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Bruce Baumberger will officiate. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
