Melvin Lee Edwards, 82, died at 5:45 a.m. on Sunday July 12, 2020 at Riverside Rehab and Healthcare in Alton. He was born March 4, 1938 in Parsons, Kansas the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Chritcer) Edwards. He was a controller for many years with a construction company in St. Louis, MO. Melvin served in the U.S. Army and he was a member of the Alton Antique Auto Club. On October 8, 1965 he married Janice C. Fletcher and she survives. Also surviving are three children; Tim Edwards (Stacey) of Brighton, IL, Marie Wesolowski (Gary) of Creve Coeur, MO and Lee Anne Edwards of Lincoln, IL, six grandchildren, Elizabeth Meals (Jordon), Wesley Edwards (Megan), Steven Davis (Cailin), Lauren Wesolowski, Logan Wesolowski and Dreya Colley, six great grandchildren, Sadie Meals, Max Meals, Arya Meals, Ethan Edwards, Dylan Edwards and Owen Davis, one brother, Jake Edwards (Becky) of Godfrey and two sisters, Barb Humphrey (Harry) of Alton and Bev Dulin of Alton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Hornback. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Upper Alton Cemetery with Reverend Greg Linscott officiating. Memorials may be made to Brown Street Baptist Church. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
