Mary Evelyn Roberts, 86, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born February 25, 1925 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of the late Harry and Blanche (O'Dell) Wertenberg. She was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. On September 5, 1945 in Battle Creek, MI she married Elmer J. Roberts and he survives. Also surviving are one daughter and her husband; Linda (Jon) Schmoeller of Godfrey, IL. Four grandchildren; Sherry (Dennis) Freeman, Deanna (David) Gunter, Lori (Ron) Bloom and Elizabeth Schmoeller and her fiancé Jon Hisaw. Four great grandchildren; Ashley (Nick) Calame, Jessica Schofield, Jonathon Heintz and Clayton Long. Two great-great granddaughters; Madison and Lillian Calame. One brother; Harold Wertenberg of Belmont, CA., and several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be Monday, July 18, 2011 from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier to officiate at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Private Burial at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
