Obituary

Mary Lou Hill was born on October 14th, 1943 in Canton, IL to Kenneth and Rosie Hill (nee Stohner). She, along with her older brother Jack Hill and half-siblings, Richard and Margaret, grew up on farms managed by her father. After her mother's passing, she was later joined by half-siblings, Don, Keith and Carol.
Mary Lou graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School in 1961. After helping at her father's business, she left home to start a career at a downtown Saint Louis manufacturing firm. It was during her daily bus rides to work when she met her future husband, Dan Cupples. As Mary Lou would regularly share, her fondest memories were being a wife, homemaker and raising her children who included, Scott Jones (Tina); twins, Tammy Shewfelt (Barry) & Anthony "Tony" Cupples; and her youngest son, Brian Cupples.
In addition to being a loving mom, she was also a very involved and caring grandmother, spending a lot of time with her oldest and only granddaughter, Leah Skinner. She also always looked forward to the time she was able to spend with her younger grandchildren, Aidan Shewfelt, Elijah Cupples, Emmit Cupples, and Ezra Cupples.
She loved children, as well as animals of all kinds. Growing up on Illinois farms, she had lots of stories to share about the horses, cows, chickens, and her beloved dog, Tippy. Mary Lou was a passionate and amazing storyteller who was such a giving, sweet and kind-natured person who loved the Lord.
Among those who will miss her are her 4 children, 5 grandchildren, 5 siblings, ex-husband, and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional information and online guestbook may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
