Mary Ehlers, 88, died at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at her daughter's home. She was born June 5, 1927 in Alton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Golda (Rhody) Richardson. She was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Alton. On January 7, 1946 in Alton she married Charles H. Ehlers Sr. and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2003. Surviving are seven daughters, Mary Scates (Harold) of Godfrey, Opal Swarringin (David) of Godfrey, Susan Ehlers-Wood of Bunker Hill, Brenda Spraggs (Mark) of Alton, Sadie Helgen(Greg) of East Alton, Gina Williams(Brian) of Alton and Kathryn Crabtree (Warren) of Jerseyville, and three sons, Charles H. Ehlers Jr. (Charlotte) of Godfrey, Edwin Ehlers I of MN and Robert "Bobby" Ehlers (Sena) of Jerseyville, 54 plus grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, one brother, Harold Eugene Fugate and one daughter in law, Vicky Ehlers of Bunker Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Jesse Ehlers Sr. and his wife Irene and David Ehlers Sr., two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Andre' Dobson to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or Southern Baptist disaster relief fund.
