John Martin "Marty" McKinney, 56, died at 12:46 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his home. He was born November 10, 1956 in Alton to Donald Keith and Elizabeth Ann (Larson) McKinney. Marty attended Alton Schools, Lewis & Clark College and received his degree from SIUE with geography as his major. He was employed by Madison County Transit as a dispatcher. He was an Amateur Radio Operator talking with friends, and sending and receiving code was a favorite hobby. American history was an interest. He especially studied the Civil War and World War II battles. He is survived by his parents, one sister, Susan (Inslee) Bennett of Edmond, OK, one brother, Dennis (Jana) McKinney of Wood River, four nieces and nephews and many caring and helpful friends. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey.
