Obituary of Linda Lou (Ambrose) Witcher
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Linda Lou (Ambrose) Witcher on July 4, 2026. She married Bobby Dale Witcher on June 6, 1959—they went on their first date when she was just 10 and he was 14—and they were together for 41 years until his passing in November of 2000. She remained faithful to Bob until the end, loving him and their kids, grandkids and great grandkids, her Bible and devotions. She remained faithful to God and has no doubt found joy in being reunited with Dad and her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Paul Ambrose, and sisters Hazel Barber and Dolores Wagener.
Although born in Carrollton, Illinois on July 15, 1940, she lived most of her nearly 86 years in Alton, Godfrey and Brighton. Linda began her working life for the Alton School Board director, JB Johnson. She then went on to work many years at Ameren (formerly Union Electric)—working full-time while still putting meals on the table—and knew many people in her community. She was a devoted member of Heartland Baptist Church (formerly Alton First Southern Baptist Church), where she taught Sunday school, volunteered in the nursery, and sang in the choir.
She loved her family and friends—always putting everyone else first, especially her husband and kids—showing unconditional love. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as special Sisters-in-Law Evelyn Cox (TN) and Mary Sue Whelan (AL) and many nieces and nephews.
Daughters Velinda Straub and her son Andrew; Leeanne (Ronen) Graziani of Naples, FL and their daughter Gabrielle; devoted daughter Lori (David) Peuterbaugh of Alton and their children Josh (Leah) Peuterbaugh of Kansas City, Caleb (Anne) Peuterbaugh of Chicago, and Caiti (Andrew) Smay of Houston, and grandchildren David, Lucas, Harper, Hudson, Hayden, Leo, Jack and Elsie; and sons Lyle (Angela) Witcher of Thomasville, GA and their children Abigail (Trey) Ford and Aaron; and Lance (Amy) Witcher of Sunset Hills, MO and their children Robert, Nicholas and Kathryn—all greatly mourn her passing.
As it says in 2 Timothy 4:7–8: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness." Mom fought that fight through her long illness. She finished that race. And now she wears that crown—fully healed and whole again.
Revelation 21:4 tells us: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." That promise is now her reality. Mom, thank you for everything. Thank you for showing us how to live, how to love, and how to trust in something greater than ourselves. We will miss you every day until we see you again. But we know where you are. And we know you saved us a seat—probably right next to Dad, where you belong. Until then, we love you, Mom! Always!
Visitation will be held at Heartland Baptist Church, 4500 Humbert Road, Alton, IL 62002, on Fri., July 10 at 9 a.m., with services at 10 a.m. and a private burial and lunch afterward strictly for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Heartland Baptist Church or a donation for Tom Kweder's Worldwide Tentmakers (WTI) ministry, for which checks should be made payable to Central Missionary Clearinghouse, with Linda Witcher Memorial Gift in the memo, and mailed to Central Missionary Clearinghouse, PO Box 219228, Houston TX 77218.
