Dateline: Alton

Leonard C. Dorner, 97, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born September 20, 1913 in Alton, he was the son of Carl and Katherine (Pilhoser) Dorner. He retired from the mold shop at Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Alton. He was a Ham radio operator and member of the Egyptian Radio Club. On August 23, 1940 in St. Charles, MO, he married the former Kathryn Evelyn Powers. She preceded him in death in March 1978. Surviving are two sons, David C. Dorner Sr. and wife Anna (Porter) Dorner of Alton, and Douglas S. Dorner and wife Judy (Vieth) Dorner of Alton, four grandchildren, David C. Dorner Jr. of Brighton; Jason P. Dorner of Alton; Eric Dorner and wife Lara (Renner) Dorner of Swansea; and Matthew Dorner of St. Charles, MO, and a great grandchild, Gwendolyn Elizabeth Dorner. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his sister, Gretchen Gorman. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Reverend Michael J. Porter will officiate. Memorials may be made to the 5A's Animal Shelter or to St. Anthony's Hospice.
