James Otero Leavell, 86, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 2024 at Jerseyville Manor. Born October 2, 1937 in Alton, he was the son of the late James W. and Juanita (Garnet) Leavell. Mr. Leavell served in the U.S. Army and retired from Interstate Bakeries in St. Louis, MO. He attended the Community Christian Church in Alton. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He married the former Sherry Ann Hagerty on June 29, 1956. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2011. On June 6, 2015 he and Marian Kirksey entered into a commitment ceremony at the Garden City Christian Church. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Stacy Lagemann (Jeff) of Godfrey, one son, Douglas Leavell (Elizabeth) of Ft. Collins, CO, four grandchildren, Stephanie Price (James) of Littleton, CO, Clayton Leavell of Ft. Collins, Barrett Lagemann of Godfrey, and Reagan Lagemann of Godfrey, one great grandson, Jackson Price, and a brother, Ralph Leavell of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Leavell. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Dave Burger will officiate. Burial will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Community Christian Church.
