James Ember Corwin, 80, died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Bria of Godfrey. Born June 21, 1943 in Alton, he was the son of Ember and Lavina (Gaffney) Corwin. Mr. Corwin served in the U.S. Air Force and Navy and retired from the public works department for the City of Alton. On April 29, 1973 he married Anna Delores Federle. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2022. Surviving are four daughters, Hope (Nelson) Ottwell of S. Roxana, Tammy (David) Childers of Wood River, Diana Smith of Grafton, and Cheryl (Rick) Blackford of Bunker Hill, one son, Leslie Jarrett of Alton, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Jarrett and a sister, Virginia Breeden. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Sonny Renken will officiate.
