Gerald L. (Jerry) Bachman, Ph.D., 81, passed away at his home in Des Peres, MO at 3:36 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 after a year-long battle with bladder cancer. He was born October 6, 1932 in Alton, IL the son of the late Henry and Birdie (Brueggman) Bachman. Jerry was raised on a farm in Godfrey, IL. He graduated from the University of IL and received a PhD from Washington University. He devoted his career to scientific pursuits, earning a number of patents. He retired as Process Development Director at Monsanto Co. in 1995 after 34 years. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. On May 11, 1957 in Alton he married Barbara L. Chamberlain and she survives. Also surviving are two sons; Steve (Rebekah) Bachman of Amarillo, TX and Mike Bachman of Godfrey and one brother; Don Bachman (Marijo) of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by one son; Gregory Bachman, his parents and his stepmother, Ruth Bachman. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 am. Tuesday, February, 18, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry MeCaskey to officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Charity of choice.
