Georgene Springman Smith died April 1, 2014 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Born January 17, 1928 in Alton, she was the daughter of George B. Springman and Helen Gertrude (Unterbrink) Springman. She graduated from Marquette High School and was employed by Laubach Literacy International in Syracuse for more than 20 years retiring in October 1997. Surviving are four children: Leland Smith of Clinton, NY, Constance Thacker of Macon, NC, Rebecca Thyne of N. Syracuse, NY, and Michael Smith of Mountain Lakes, NJ, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one brother, William T. Springman of Sun City West, AZ, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Linda Springman of Danville, CA. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Marquette High School, St. Francis of the Tejas Catholic Church, 609 N. Fourth St., Crockett, TX, or SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
