Edward "Ed" Meyer, 55, died at 5:08 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born May 16, 1958 in Alton, he was the son of William Meyer of Godfrey and the late Darlene (Dewanz) Meyer. He was a Captain with American Commercial Barge Line for 16 years. After retiring from ACBL he became owner/operator of Clay East Supply, Inc. in Godfrey. He married Monica Thomeczek on July 26, 2005. She survives. Along with his father and wife he is survived by his brother, William Aring Meyer of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
