Dwight Douglas Duke, Sr., 77, died at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born February 24, 1946 in Alton, he was the son of the late Marybelle Chamness of South Roxana and Isaac "Ike" Duke of Vienna, MO. Dwight was a lifelong resident of South Roxana. He served in the navy from 1965-1969 with an honorable discharge. He worked at the Alton Boxboard/Jefferson Smurfit for over 35 years. He was also a board member in the city of South Roxana, Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pamela "Susie" Duke and four children; Dwight Duke of East Alton, Illinois, April Stewart of South Roxana, Illinois, Archie Stewart of South Roxana, Illinois, Robert Stewart of East Alton, Illinois, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Daisy Duke of East Alton, Illinois, Tasha Sullivan of Litchfield, Illinois, Hope Stewart-Sperry of South Roxana, Illinois, and Brantley Sullivan of Litchfield, Illinois. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shannon Stewart of South Roxana, Illinois and a brother, Jack Lyerla of Hettick, Illinois. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Roxarena, 2 Park Dr. Roxana, Illinois 62084.
