Doris I. Joiner, 88, died at 5:48 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at her home. Born July 9, 1930, in Medora, IL, she was the daughter of Louis and Sadie (Pitman) Maska. Mrs. Joiner was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church. On August 17, 1951, she married Eldon Joiner in Medora. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1988. Surviving are three children, Trudy Samples (Tom) of Alton, Michael Joiner (Diane) of Alton, and Pat Joiner of Irving, TX, twelve grandchildren, Christina Lamere (Bryan), Christie Shomshore, Mandy Darr (Cory), Robyn Springer, Wade Joiner (Sarah), James Ferrier (Julia), Trisha Osborne (Shannon), Joseph Springer (Angie), Ashley Samples, April Samples (Michael Lampe), Alexandra Rodgers (Joe), and Thomas M. Samples, and 17 great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon "Bud" Maska, and a sister, Mary Downs. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019. Reverend Randy Butler will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
