Barbara A. Pighini, 72, passed away at 6:41 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was surrounded by her children and her dear friends. She has resided in Illinois for the past 24 years. Born August 4, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph Carty and Frances (Mawson) Carty Price and step-daughter of George Price. Barbara, also known as "Mom" or Grammy Bug" had such an exuberance for life, family and work. She gave a new meaning to the words "hardworking and dedication." Her passion for her work showed in the beautiful designs she created in many of the homes and businesses in the area. Not only did she provide comfort to the people in their homes by her beautiful designs, she will be ultimately remembered for the connections she made with people. She was a stranger to no one, and always offered her kindness and support to anyone in need. She always wanted things to be the best once it was in her hands it would truly end in perfection. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed the time with them immensely. She spent hours playing card games, board games, Monopoly, cooking, crafts and she learned a thing or two about high tech video games. Barbara loved her Fox news, sports, pretzels and diet Coke, in the early days it was regular Coke in glass bottles, the telephone, and then the cell Lenny bought her. Her strong faith will serve her well; she is now at peace with her mother, aunts, uncle and animals she loved so much. She will be layed to rest back on the east coast close to her family. She is survived by her children, Debbie Tarsitano and husband Michael, Lenny Pighini and wife Elaine, and Michelle Pighini Lederman and her husband Perry, and her grandchildren, Chris Tarsitano, Jacqie Tarsitano, Jacob Pighini, Lizzy Pighini, Jack Lederman, Luke Lederman, Lily Lederman and her dear friend Paul Bunt. Friends may gather at Barb's home on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for a time of remembrance. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
