Barbara J. (Schmidt) Maggos, wife to Nick Maggos (deceased), loving mother of two daughters; Colleen Dash and Suzy Erker, beloved grandmother of John David, Michael, and Allison; great grandmother of Sophia Grace and Teresa Rose, passed away peacefully on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2015 as the sun shone. A resident of Alton for 51 years, Barbara was an active community member and served on the White Cross Auxiliary at Alton memorial Hospital for many years. Also surviving is a brother, Francis J. Schmidt, and two sisters, Kathleen Joyce and Marylou O'Brien. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Ann Burke and two brothers, James William Schmidt and Thomas Schmidt. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Father John Wykes OMV will officiate. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
