Barbara Lee Cope, 80, went home to be with the Lord at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born April 12, 1933 in Alton, she was the daughter of James Henry and Irene Marylin (Hunt) Adams. She was a member of the East Alton Assembly of God Church and worked for the Olin Corporation. Mrs. Cope enjoyed crafts, reading and playing cards with her friends. On August 31, 1955 she married Everett C. Cope. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2000. Surviving is a son, James Richard Gaston of Tampa, FL, three grandchildren, Michelle Athan, Brian Gill, and Brett Gill all of Tampa, FL, two sisters, Carol Copeland (Lonnie) of Edwardsville and Joyce Wright of Staunton. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald D. Cope. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the East Alton Assembly of God Church. Pastor Perry Dissmore will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the East Alton Assembly of God Church or the American Cancer Society. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
