Retha Louise Goss

Dateline: Cape Coral, FL Retha Louise Goss, 83, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 26, 2012, at her home. Retha was born June 23, 1928, in San Jose, California, a daughter of Melvin Frank and Ruth Lucille (Hale) Brandt. Retha married Frank Clinton Goss on September 5, 1948, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The next Sunday they started their 45 years of pastoring Assembly of God churches. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God in North Fort Myers, Florida. Retha spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and assumed the responsibilities of a Pastor’s wife which included: youth director, choir leader, counselor, prayer warrior, children’s church and Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible Schools, pianist and organist. They pastored six churches located in: Camp Point, Illinois; Peoria, Illinois; Branson, Missouri; Jerseyville, Illinois; Hammond, Indiana; and St Louis, Missouri. She enjoyed cleaning, cooking, and spending time with her family. Her favorite Bible verse was I Peter 5:7, “Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” Retha is survived by her husband, Frank, of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter, Patricia (Alan) Pettenger, Missionaries in Lesotho, Africa; sons, Philip (Naomi) Goss, Pastor in North Fort Myers, Florida; Paul (Robin) Goss, Pastor in Olney, Illinois; sister, Velda (Bill) Heaston, Oviedo, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Chase) Goss, Lucas Goss, Christy Henry, Nathan (Lee) Goss, Rachel (Steven) Porter, Jenny Pettenger, Stephen (Tori) Goss, Kelly (Todd) Drury, Kyle Goss, Kurt Goss; and 7 great-grandchildren, Samuel, Cassondra, Peyton, Trinity Goss; Devin Pettenger, Skyler Henry, and Jude Goss. Retha was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Eugene Harold Brandt. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarships fund for students to attend Assembly Bible College in Lesotho, Africa.
