Dateline: Cottage Hills It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lynie Mae Cannon, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who peacefully left this world on May 27, 2026. Born in the quaint town of Braggadocio, Missouri, Lynie brought light and laughter into the lives of others. Lynie was the cherished daughter of Charlie and Mary (Hatton) Ash, who preceded her in death along with her loving husband, Russell D. Cannon Sr., and her siblings, Jack Ash, Flora Cooley, Henry Ash, Evelyn Null, and Phyllis Hodge. They welcomed her into eternal rest with open arms. Lynie married the love of her life, Russell D. Cannon Sr., on May 13, 1967, a union that grew into a family who will continue to honor her memory. She is survived by her devoted children: her daughter Constance and husband Oatis Hood of Puxico, MO; her son Kenneth Sharp of Cottage Hills, IL; and her son James and wife Renee Cannon of Clinton Township, MI, who each carry pieces of her spirit and love in their hearts. Her legacy is further carried by her grandchildren, her grandson Miles and wife Chasity Browning of Wappapello, MO; her granddaughter Amanda and husband Steven Sides, of Dexter, MO. Kaitlyn Cannon of Marrietta, OH and Madison Cannon of Clinton Township, MI and her great-grandchildren, Kerigan Jones of Bloomfield, MO and Izabella Browning of Wappapello, MO who brought immense joy to her later years. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Lynie found solace and joy sitting on her porch and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, a reflection of the beauty she nurtured in her life. A woman of warmth and creativity, found joy in crafts, creating pieces that will be treasured by those fortunate enough to have received them. Lynie had a gentle spirit and a giving heart. She loved spending time with close family and friends. Though we mourn her passing, we find comfort in the memories she leaves behind and the love that will forever bind her family and friends. Lynie's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the simple joys of life. Lynie Cannon will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will live on through her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and love. A life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
