Karen Lorraine Kribs

Karen Lorraine Kribs, 61, died at 3:24 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born October 1, 1951 in East St. Louis, IL the daughter of the late Albert Klohr and Susan (Preston) Klohr. She grew up in Fairview Heights, IL and graduated from Belleville East High School. Received a B.S. in Education from Valparaiso University and a M.A. in teaching from Rockford College. She retired in May of 2011 after 32 years as teacher in the Southwestern School District and Jersey County School District. Karen enjoyed traveling. She has traveled to all 50 U.S. states and 10 provinces in Canada and 12 Countries in Europe. She enjoyed needlework of all kinds and flower gardening. She sang with choirs in high school, college, Lewis & Clark Chamber Singers, St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Great Rivers Choral Society. She enjoyed playing the piano. She also enjoyed her outdoor activities of white water rafting, sea kayaking, zip-lining, hot air balloon riding, trout fishing and camping. She loved to hike in the woods with her children. On August 11, 1973 in Red Bud, IL she married Thomas “Tom” Kribs and he survives. Also surviving are one daughter; Kristin Claybaker and her husband Jordan of St. Peters, MO, two sons; Tim Kribs and his wife Brandy (Cox) of Jerseyville, IL and Jon Kribs and his wife Emily (Kruse) of Brighton, IL, eight grandchildren; Andrew, Alex, Adam, Abram, Anna, Kendall, Lydia Kribs, and Evan Claybaker, two brothers; Jerry Klohr of Arvada, CO and Ronald Klohr and his wife Sara of Clinton, TN and two sisters; Linda Klohr of Belleville, IL and Becky Roethe and her husband Larry of Mulkeytown, IL., and two special friends; Mary Lou Sutton and Kathy Cooper. She was preceded in death by one brother; David Klohr and one sister-in-law; Jean Klohr. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday with Father Steve Pohlman to officiate at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice. PDF Printable Version
