Dagan John Hampton

Dagan John Hampton, 44, died at 11:02 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at his home in Elsah, IL. Born December 22, 1977, in Alton, IL, he was the son of John Frederich and Janet Sue (Poe) Hampton of Grafton, IL. Along with his parents, he is survived by a son, Colton John Hampton and co-parent, Amy Lewis of Crestwood, MO, a brother, Greg Hampton (Tarah) of Godfrey, and a sister, Lisa Viviano (Tim) of Godfrey. In addition, he is survived by four nieces, Lylah, Amelia, Maria, and Eliana and one nephew, Leo, and many close friends. Dagan was a 1996 graduate of Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville, IL and received his associates degree from Lewis and Clark Community College in 1998. Dagan was the owner and operator of Hampton Appraisals and took much pride in his work. In addition, Dagan was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and he was a teacher by nature. He took pride in sharing all of what he learned on “the mountain” to everyone he crossed paths with, but especially Colton. The names of the trees, the migration patterns of the birds, the behaviors of the deer and other wildlife. He loved sharing what his father taught him with his son and nieces and nephew. He was most at peace in nature and his son finds the same solace there. “Watching the woods come alive" was one of their favorite pastimes. Dagan was one of kind: head-strong, determined, and driven as well as kind, giving, and always up for a good laugh. He lived a life that was not short of wild adventures (some of which can only be shared among his closest of friends, many of those who partook in those adventures with him). He will be remembered as a strong and loving son, brother, and friend who loved nothing more than his son. People often wonder "what can we do" when somebody passes. The best way to honor Dagan would be to live life to the fullest, hug your children and loved ones a little tighter, dance when your favorite tune comes on, and don’t forget to catch a Miami Dolphins every once in a while! Find your place in nature where everything is calm and peaceful and enjoy every moment. A memorial visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2022, at Gent Funeral Home 2406 State Street in Alton, IL. You are encouraged to wear a mask during the visitation.
