Samuel David Lutes, 77, died at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at his home. Born July 7, 1935 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Samuel D. and Leona (Dixon) Lutes. Mr. Lutes served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957. He was a member of the West Alton Church of God and retired as a truck driver for Pete Oliver Trucking Company in Mexico, MO. On February 28, 1956 he married the former Kathryn Vera Armstrong. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2004. Surviving are two daughters, Renee Phelps (Mike) of Eldon, MO, and Amy Lutes of Eldon, MO, one son, Samuel Ralph Lutes (Andrea) of Albuquerque, NM, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother, Jerry Lutes (Dorothy) of Millstadt, IL, and three sisters, Willadean Springer (Bob) of West Alton, MO, Patty Gossin of Crane, MO, and Cheryl Brown of Galena, MO. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Vicky Lutes-Taylor and Litisha Springer, two brothers, Tom and Percy Lutes, and three sisters, Imogene Costello, Willamay Lutes, and Hazel Turner. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the West Alton Church of God in West Alton, MO. Reverend Randy Butler will officiate. Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in West Alton, MO. Memorials may be made to Gent Funeral Home.
